Size Does Matter

We are excited about going to Alaska and seeing any or all of wild salmon, bear, whales and glaciers. What we see of the state is another matter.

Our cruise has a classic itinerary but I was rather deflated when I looked at a map. The inside passage route barely scratches the SE portion of this huge territory.

Anyway we have chosen excursions at our limited ports of call to match my interests and avoid eating salmon daily. We will be glacier viewing by floatplane and taking a railroad ride.

There are a lot of people at work interested in a similar itinerary. I hope I have lots to encourage them with.

Raison d'Etre

For some while since we started cruising Greg has been interested in visiting the Norwegian Fjords. I demurred suggesting that pretty though it might be, one fjord would look much like another. It seemed to be a compromise to go to Alaska, a state I imagine is not much visited by Europeans except on cruises. Greg challenged that we would simply be seeing Alaskan fjords as opposed to Norwegian ones but we booked anyway.

We are going on a classic inside passage trip with stops only at Skagway, Ketchikan and Juneau. We sail from and to Vancouver and that is an added bonus. We have been there three times previously and it deserves its liveable accolade. We depart the UK on September 14th.

Much more detail will appear in this blog very soon.
